- We were there for the first two weeks. There were some problems, to be sure (transportation, guidance from officials) but the joy that this event has brought to South Africa is undeniable.

- We just got back from the World Cup in South Africa. The vuvuzelas actually are not that bad when you are in the stadium. However, everyone seems to have one there and people blow them everywhere, including in airports and restaurants. It's kind of amusing, although annoying.

A Texas mayor resigns abruptly — for love

- I am pretty certain that I met this guy when he came to Washington, DC a couple of years ago for a U.S. mayor's conference. He came by to see the District government building and ended up in our office somehow. I told him that my former boss, a former D.C. Councilmember was also from Texas.
